2008 Audi TT Coupe

2008 Audi TT Coupe
A cult car and an icon. From the day it made its U.S. debut in autumn 1999, the Audi TT took the sports coupe segment by storm, sharpening the brand’s profile in the process. Now the second generation of this successful model is making its debut. The new Audi TT Coupe embodies sheer dynamism in its design, engine output and performance.
The exterior design
The first generation Audi TT has become a milestone in automotive design, an icon. The design adhered to pure geometric lines, embodying a functional purity and austerity harking back to the Bauhaus style of the 1920s. The core motifs were the circle and the curves of the roof line and front and rear overhangs. This timeless architecture guaranteed that the Audi TT was an eminently recognizable presence on the road and simultaneously gave decisive momentum to the development of the entire brand. Audi has lovingly retained and stylishly enhanced the TT’s genetic code.On the Audi TT the geometric shapes merge fluidly into a uniform whole. A low, narrow greenhouse is supported by slim pillars sitting on broad, powerful shoulders. The base body beneath is compact in looks, conveying a feeling of confidence and strength. The convex and concave curves of its surfaces lend it the character of an athletic sculpture straining forward. The front end has gained greater expressiveness and resolve. The single-frame radiator grille serves as its defining element. The large air inlets hint at the potential of the engines, and the sharply cut, sloping headlights emphasize the car’s mature appearance. The rear styling, characteristic of the Audi TT, conveys power and dynamism through its wide wheel arches. The lights generate a three-dimensional effect thanks to their visual depth. The powerful exhaust tailpipes, the wide diffuser and the centered rear fog light echo the world of motorsport. When the Audi TT is stationary, its electrically operated rear spoiler is visible only as an unobtrusive lip. When the car reaches a speed of 75 mph, the spoiler is extended in a two-dimensional curve motion, thereby improving the downforce on the rear axle. When the car’s speed drops below 50 mph again, the spoiler automatically retracts. The underbody design also helps to reduce lift. The interior The original TT was itself one of the few coupes on the market to offer genuine sports car design in its interior. In the new model, too, the fluid dynamism of the exterior is echoed in the interior. A sweeping line provides a transition between the interior trim of the door and the instrument panel. It embodies the classic circles motif of the Audi TT in a number of ways, such as in the three center air vents. All lines converge in the instrument cluster, with its two large scales for speed and revs. New features include a large digital speedometer in the display of the driver information system. The new standard-spec sport steering wheel fits snugly in the driver’s hands. Its solid rim, trimmed in high-grade leather, is flattened at the bottom similar to the Audi R8. The driver’s and front passenger’s sports seats are fitted even lower down than in the predecessor model, providing a truly sporty seating position allied to firm side restraint. Like the steering column, they can be adjusted longitudinally and in height, offering a perfect sporty seated position for every driver.
The body
The Audi TT, like its predecessor, is initially available as a 2+2-seater coupe; a roadster model was scheduled for later launch. The dynamic impression that it creates stems from its modified proportions. The coupe is 5.4 in. longer and 3.1 in. wider than its predecessor, but only 0.2 in. higher. It is now 164.5 in. long, 72.5 in. wide and 53.5 in. high. The Audi TT’s wheelbase is 97.2 in. The interior, too, has benefited from this increase in size: by 1.1 in. in front shoulder width to 53.2 in. and by 0.9 in. in rear shoulder width to 47.5 in. In the basic configuration, the luggage compartment beneath the large lid accommodates 13.1 cu. ft. of luggage. It grows to approximately 24.7 cu. ft. when the rear seat backs are folded down, and its length of 66.9 in. is ample for two golf bags. With these practical characteristics, the Audi TT Coupe sets standards in its class. The body of the Audi TT is constructed using the Audi Space Frame (ASF), a ground-breaking aluminium technology developed by the company in the early 1990s for the first Audi A8. The ASF combines aluminium and steel for the first time. Aluminium accounts for 69 percent of the weight of the body. Fully galvanized steel components are located principally at the rear of the floor panel. The doors and luggage compartment lid also are made of steel. This ensures that the axle loads are distributed evenly, thus considerably improving vehicle handling. The bodyshell of the Audi TT weighs 454 lbs., 308 lbs. of which is aluminum and 146 lbs. steel; were it built entirely of steel, it would be 48 percent heavier. Its low weight is one of the key factors behind the impressive road behavior of the Audi TT Coupe. The unladen weight of the Audi TT 2.0T is just 2,965 lbs. – placing it at the forefront of this performance class. And the 3.2 quattro weighs only 3,218 lbs. The new-style ASF on the Audi TT features properties that are truly worthy of a genuine sports car. Its static torsional rigidity has been improved by approximately 50 percent over its predecessor. In terms of crash safety, the Audi TT is utterly uncompromising.
The drivetrain
The Audi TT is powered by two transversely installed engines – a four-cylinder turbo (TFSI) and a V6. Both units provide it with high levels of power and performance. Their performance enables the Audi TT Coupe to perform impressively on the road. The optional S tronic dual-clutch gearbox and standard quattro drive for the V6 – both of them exclusive technologies in the sports coupe segment – transmit the engine’s power into propulsion. The four-cylinder turbo engine (TFSI), develops its power from a swept volume of 1,984 cc (2.0 liters). An international jury of experts voted it “Engine of the Year” for two years in succession, in 2005 and 2006 – praise indeed for its innovative technological package. The TFSI combines the Audi-developed gasoline direct injection technology FSI, which has impressively demonstrated its superiority in the R8 racing car, with a turbocharger – a perfect combination. The four-valve engine responds spontaneously to the throttle and is ultra-refined. It puts 207 ft.-lbs. of torque onto the crankshaft even at engine speeds as low as 1,800 rpm, and is able to keep this high level of torque constant up to 5,000 rpm. The nominal power output of 200 hp is delivered between 5,100 and 6,000 rpm. The 2.0 T accelerates the Audi TT Coupe from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.1 seconds with the standard S tronic dual-clutch gearbox. Even more power is on tap from the V6 engine, with its 3,189 cc (3.2 liters) capacity. It develops a maximum torque of 236 ft.-lbs. between 2,500 and 3,000 rpm, and at 6,300 rpm delivers a power output of 250 hp. The characteristic features of the long-stroke unit are the continuous adjustment of all four camshafts – by 52 degrees on the intake side and 42 degrees on the exhaust side – and the extremely narrow cylinder angle of just 15 degrees. On the road, the 3.2-liter V6 unit reveals itself to be high-torque and high-revving. It produces a fascinatingly sonorous response at every engine speed, emphasising above all the intake sound. The Audi TT 3.2 quattro sprints from a standing start to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds with S tronic, 5.5 seconds with the standard manual transmission. The standard-spec transmission is a six-speed manual gearbox in a weight-saving magnesium casing. A technical highlight, and a unique feature in its class for the Audi TT, is the optional S tronic dual-clutch gearbox. The system’s dual-clutch technology enables it to change gear in just 0.2 seconds, producing no discernible interruption to the power flow. In manual mode, the driver does the gear-changing, either by tapping the selector lever or by pulling one of the shift paddles mounted behind the steering wheel, like on a racing car.The four-cylinder Audi TT is a front-wheel-drive model, while the V6 features permanent four-wheel drive. Its quattro drive system operates with an electronically controlled and hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch. In order to improve the distribution of axle loads, the clutch is placed at the rear of the Audi TT. The mechanical construction and control efficiency of the unit have been further enhanced relative to the predecessor model. In normal conditions, the clutch directs 85 percent of the torque to the front wheels, but in extreme circumstances it is able to transmit as much as 100 percent of the forces to one of the two axles.
The chassis
The sport suspension on the Audi TT Coupe also helps to deliver top-class dynamics. This is thanks in part to its elaborate layout, as well as its 0.4 in. lower center of gravity. The Audi dynamic suspension layout has been redeveloped and retuned. Emphasis has been placed on the wider track, the larger wheel cross-sections with diameters ranging from 17 to 19 inches and the extensive elastokinematic measures. The front suspension is pivoted on an aluminium subframe. It has a wide track of 61.9 in.The steering comprises a rack-and-pinion assembly that supplies its electromechanical servo assistance as a function of road speed. The steering is characterized by direct transmission and a high degree of precision. A new feature compared with the torsion-beam design of the predecessor is the four-link rear suspension with a track of 61.3 in. In this instance, the coil springs and shock absorbers are separate. The trailing links absorb the propulsive and braking forces. As an aid to ride comfort, their configuration is relatively soft. On the other hand, the three wishbones per wheel are connected rigidly in order to introduce the transverse forces into the body precisely. The Audi TT 2.0 T features 17-inch cast aluminium wheels, fitted with 225/50 R 17 tires as standard. The 3.2 quattro features forged 17-inch lightweight alloy wheels, fitted with 245/45 R 17 tires. All Audi TT models are fitted with newly developed disc brakes on every wheel. The new brake pads develop particularly high friction coefficients that improve brake responsiveness and performance. The newly developed electronic stabilization program is designed to maintain a dynamic driving style that promotes the TT’s self-steering behavior, which is in the range of neutral to slightly understeering. This sporty characteristic delivers thrilling agility, maximum driving fun and magnificent handling.Audi’s high-tech damping system, Audi magnetic ride, is available as an option. It is an innovative technology that resolves the age-old conflict between comfort and driving dynamics. The shock absorber pistons on the Audi TT do not contain conventional oil, but instead use a magneto-rheological fluid in which microscopically small magnetic particles are enclosed. When a voltage is applied to them, they alter the damping characteristics within milliseconds. This adaptive system simultaneously maintains astonishingly high levels of ride comfort and thoroughly sporty dynamism with perfect roll stabilization, according to the specific driving scenario and the preferences of the driver. The driver can choose between the basic programs “Standard” and “Sport” at a switch. None of the Audi TT’s competitors offers a similarly advanced technological concept.
The equipment
All variants of the Audi TT come generously equipped, with the new 140 watt audio system, a driver information system, automatic climate control, aluminum trim, cruise control, tilt and telescoping flat-bottom three-spoke steering wheel, and automatic wind deflector. A comprehensive list of options includes a S line package featuring aggressive body styling, special interior trim, and 19-inch alloy wheels. Audi Magnetic Ride adds electronically controlled dampers that adjust in milliseconds to driver input for a sporty or comfortable ride. 18-inch alloy wheels are available on all models for sportier handling characteristics. DVD-based navigation is optional and uses Audi’s MMI technology. An optional Enhanced Interior Package adds fine Nappa leather covered upholstery, door trim, armrest, and hand brake. The storage package is part of the enhanced interior package and does not include the ski bag. The Audio package includes a 255 watt, 12-speaker audio system with noise compensation and Sirius Satellite Radio. Another special option is the Audi Exclusive Interior package that includes black leather seats with colored leather seat inserts, door inserts, and stitching. Available colors are Silver, Signal Orange, Crimson Red, and Saddle Brown. Xenon plus headlights with the adaptive light cornering function also can be found on the extensive list of equipment options. They are fitted in conjunction with a headlight styling package that Audi includes as standard on the 3.2 quattro and optional on the 2.0T. An optional iPod® interface also is available. It is located in the glove box to help protect the iPod and keep it out of sight. The adapter also charges the iPod while it is connected and the car is turned on.

2008 Audi S8

2008 Audi S8
The Audi S8 is the supreme athlete in the luxury class. With its combination of 10-cylinder FSI power, permanent and particularly sporty quattro four-wheel drive, and Audi Space Frame, the Audi S8 occupies a unique position within its competitive field of high-performance sedans. The outstanding potential of the 10-cylinder powerpack finds its counterpart in the dynamically tuned sports suspension, high-performance brake system and sporty yet elegant design.Sports appeal is firmly anchored in the genetic code of the Audi brand. In the case of the S models, however, sportiness is a declared principle, combined with comfort, aesthetics, elegance and uncompromising quality. The Audi S8 with its 5.2-liter V10 FSI engine combines all of these strengths to produce passion and superiority.A 10-cylinder engine is the ideal design for sporting aspirations. Although an eight-cylinder engine would be even more compact, to make it into the five-liter class would require large, heavy pistons and connecting rods, which would impair its ability to rev freely. It is no coincidence that competitors generally have concentrated simply on high torque with their large-capacity V8 engines, rather than attempting to squeeze sporty performance out of them, too.
Spontaneous response
Other advantages of the high-speed V10 design are quite clear. The engine fascinates with its spontaneous response and short reaction times. It produces a throaty sound when accelerating and yet has a beefy torque curve even at low speeds. All in all it forms the perfect synthesis of sporty driving enjoyment and comfort on long journeys. The 450 hp V10 in the Audi S8 also belongs to the new generation of V engines from Audi, all of which feature a standard 90-degree angle. The crankcase of the Audi 10-cylinder powerpack is made from an aluminum alloy. This technology renders separate cylinder liners superfluous; the liners are instead honed directly from the material by exposing hard silicon crystals. The connecting rods are made from forged steel and the pistons from an aluminum alloy.
Performance and pulling power
The V10 in the Audi S8 uses FSI gasoline direct injection, which has impressively demonstrated its dynamic potential in motor sport. The R8 racing car featuring this technology represented Audi five times at the 24-hour Le Mans race and captured four victories. The common rail injection system delivers the fuel directly to the combustion chambers in precisely metered amounts. The powerful 10-cylinder engine has been optimized for high torque as well as high engine power. From as low as 3,000 to 4,000 rpm it delivers 398 ft. lbs. to the crankshaft. More than 90 percent of the torque is available at 2,300 rpm. The V10 imparts the luxury sedan with the road performance of a high-caliber sports car. The Audi S8 sprints from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Only a short while later it reaches its governed top speed of 155 mph, also facilitated by its low drag coefficient. With its innovative Audi Space Frame, the Audi S8 weighs a mere 4,596 lbs., including the dynamic and sure-footed new-generation quattro drive, which boasts asymmetric/dynamic torque distribution.
Running gear underlines dynamic character
The center differential distributes 40 percent of the torque to the front and 60 per cent to the rear. This slightly rear-biased split underlines the dynamic character of the Audi S8. The new Audi S8 is equipped with a six-speed Tiptronic transmission as standard. In keeping with the character of this sporty top-of-the-line model, the final ratio of the automatic transmission is lower than on the Audi A8, and the sedan still is capable of forceful acceleration even in sixth gear. With regard to the running gear, the Audi S8 relies on adaptive air suspension sport, the optional sports suspension for the A8. On the Audi S8, however, the characteristics of the air springs and the shock absorbers integrated into the air spring bellows are somewhat firmer. With a further reduction in rolling and pitching movements, the sporty top model behaves with even greater agility and maneuverability, but it is as stable and safe as ever. The elastokinematics of the rubber mounts in the axles have likewise been modified in keeping with the character of the Audi S8.The Audi S8 leaves the factory with newly developed cast aluminum wheels with a parallel-spoke S design. Their dimension is 9 J x 20, and the summer performance tires are size 265/35 R20.The Audi S models always have epitomized high performance and refined sports appeal. The same applies to the Audi S8. It lends the design of the A8 a dynamic edge. This prestigious sedan already is inherently light and elegant in character. Its aesthetic appeal reflects its exceptional position as a sports model in the luxury class. The Audi S8 cuts a supremely athletic figure, but it never looks aggressive. The most striking changes are to be found at its front end. The eye-catching singleframe grille bearing the S8 badge is in platinum grey, and its double vertical struts have a chrome-look finish.
An ambience of luxurious sportiness
Besides the 20-inch wheels with the new S design and special brakes, four details on the side sections indicate the potential of the V10 engine: badges on the wings and the front brake callipers, door handles with aluminum trim strips and aluminum-look exterior mirror housings. The S8 badge at the rear, an integrated rear spoiler, a subtle light-refracting edge in the apron and an exhaust system with four oval tailpipes complete the range of optical modifications. The Audi S8 also adds various specific accents to the luxurious interior. The Audi S8 sports seats, which have a wide range of adjustment features, have two-color upholstery with stitching in a contrasting color. The color combinations underscore the ambience of luxurious sportiness. Other interior details distinguish the sporty top model from the A8. The highly-polished door sill trims bear S8 badges, and the inlays on the door and center console are made of Vavona Gray wood or carbon fiber. The three-spoke multifunction steering wheel features color-contrasting stitching and aluminum-look paddles as well as an S8 badge. The innovative lighting technology known as adaptive light, including LED daytime running lights, is standard equipment on every Audi S8. Here the adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights are coupled with static turning light and dynamic cornering lights as well as separate LED daytime running lights, as on the Audi A8L W12 quattro. As well as adaptive light technology and 20-inch wheels, the standard specification incorporates other comfort and convenience equipment items. These include new, noise-insulating double glazing for the windows, a DVD navigation system and BOSE Surround audio system with CD changer. The door armrests, the center console, and the seats in the Audi S8 are upholstered in leather. The standard access and authorization system known as advanced key permits the driver to open the Audi S8 without having to take hold of the key. The driver then can switch on the 10-cylinder powerplant by pressing the Start button and immediately enjoying its inimitable sound.

2008 Audi S8

2008 Audi S6

2008 Audi S6
In model year 2008, Audi offers significant changes for the A6 model line. In all of its forms, the latest generation of the Audi A6 combines superior driving dynamics and sophisticated technology with exceptional comfort and equipment. For 2008, the A6 models will receive the S line exterior treatment as standard equipment. This package includes a distinctive front grille with S line badge, S line front and rear bumpers and 18-inch five-arm quattro GmbH wheels with 245/40 R18 all-season tires. A6 quattro models can be equipped with an optional twin seven-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels with summer performance tires. There also is a new optional chrome finish 18-inch alloy wheel with summer performance tires.Another key addition to the A6 and Audi S6 in 2008 is an optional Audi lane assist feature. A camera located in front of the mirror housing monitors the vehicle's path and alerts drivers if they wander from their lane unintentionally. This is done with a slight vibration in the steering wheel, similar to driving over rumble strips commonly found on freeway shoulders.Powerful engines with up to 10 cylinders and 435 horsepower, advanced transmission technologies, and a choice between quattro permanent all-wheel drive or FrontTrak front wheel drive make Audi's current A6 and Audi S6 offerings unique in the segment. Such levels of technology have helped the A6 line achieve the highest worldwide sales in its class.
Timeless design infused with modern technology
Already acknowledged as classic, the fundamental proportion of Audi's sports sedan with its low-slung windows and coupe-like roofline now comes with even greater strength and energy. The contours of the upswept shoulder line and the movement of the dynamic line above the side sills give the car's entire body a unique push in forward design. The distinctly curved dome on the middle of the engine compartment hood symbolizes the power and performance offered by the Audi A6 and Audi S6. Seen from the front, the trapezoidal design of the single-frame radiator grille reveals clearly that the A6 represents the latest generation of Audi models. The already classic proportions of the Audi A6 Avant's silhouette, with its high shoulder line, narrow window area, coupe-like roofline and flat, sloping tail end, have been infused with a new degree of style. The profile of the A6 Avant rises gently, with a curved shoulder line and the powerful, sweeping motion of the dynamic line above the side sills and gives the entire car body a forward-moving, tapered appearance. The Audi S6 looks unmistakably even more athletic on the road. The most striking differences compared with the A6 are to be found at the front end. The eye-catching single-frame grille displays the Audi S6 emblem, and its vertical aluminum-appearance struts are of a double design by way of further differentiation. There is an air inlet beneath the grille, and a spoiler lip at the front end of the car provides additional down force.Another innovation in the Audi S6 front bumper is a pioneering development in terms of both road safety and style: the separate LED daytime running lights, each of which consists of five white LEDs, consume only a minimal amount of energy. When these light strips are switched on, the effect is utterly distinctive: they make it incredibly easy to identify the new Audi S6, and the low-down position of the daytime running lights gives the car a dynamically flat appearance. To accommodate this concept, the front fog lights have been incorporated into the main headlights, the housings of which are tinted grey. Bi-Xenon adaptive headlights are provided as standard equipment. The rear light units incorporate LED brake lights as standard. The trim strips along the lower edge of the doors have been made wider, to accentuate the "S" character, and they are painted in the body color. Other striking differentiating features are door sill trims bearing the S6 logo at all four doors, the rear spoiler integrated subtly into the luggage compartment lid (rather than merely added onto it), aluminum-appearance exterior mirrors, the V10 emblem at the front beneath the side turn indicators, and an S6 logo on the trunk lid. The vehicle's tail end also displays a color-contrasting diffuser in the bumper, for turbulence-free air routing, and four ellipsoidal tailpipes in an exhaust system with notably sporty acoustics.Advanced headlight technology is equally visible behind the clear-glass headlight covers. The A6 was the first Audi to feature powerful Bi-Xenon adaptive headlight technology, standard on the 4.2 and Audi S6 - optional on the 3.2 and Avant - which helps the driver see around corners. The headlights follow the course of the road ahead as a function of steering angle and road speed to a maximum of 15 degrees, substantially improving the visibility. The driver sees upcoming bends more clearly and precisely and is able to detect possible obstacles at an earlier point in time. At night, the driver also can benefit from the "coming home and leaving home" lighting system. This system lights the exterior of the vehicle under the rear view mirrors in combination with the front fog lights and rear tail lights to provide a clear picture of the driver's surroundings. It can be activated from the Multi Media Interface (MMI) and produces a significant improvement in active safety.Another fascinating feature is programmable daytime running lights in conjunction with adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights. Consuming very little energy, the daytime running lights - LED lights on the Audi S6 - offer the benefit of enhanced safety and visibility with virtually no additional fuel consumption and, as a result, no increase in CO2 emissions. Low-slung rear lights wrap distinctly around to the inside and characterize the rear end of the car. A chrome strip visually divides the luggage compartment lid horizontally, at the same time creating a striking union between the rear lights and the trunk. The very dynamic rear contour line provides an additional design cue at the back and marks the rear upper end of the trunk that now incorporates the Audi S6 lip spoiler for 2008 on all A6 sedan models.
Interior
The 2008 A6 and A6 Avant continue Audi's recognized interior design leadership in terms of material quality and fit and finish. A truly driver-focused cockpit envelops the driver and passengers with materials such as aluminum, leather and wood. The round temperature and fuel gauges are located in the corner of the teardrop-shaped surrounds, next to the large tachometer and speedometer. The four-spoke multifunction steering wheel is highlighted by its single-frame trapezoid centerpiece with the four Audi rings on the central airbag cap.The luxurious interior of the Audi S6 features specific highlights and distinguishing features. For instance, there is a new generation of sports seats. They have integral head restraints and pronounced lateral supports and are upholstered in Silk Nappa leather. The front seats are electrically adjustable in multiple directions as standard and include a lumbar support. A multi-stage heating function for both front seats is included as standard. The rear seats are equipped with L-shaped head restraints affording a better view to the rear. ISOFIX mountings for installing child seats on the outer rear seats are standard. The three-spoke multifunction leather sports steering wheel with the S logo is a typical example of the hand-crafted character that Audi so often achieves in its attention to detail. It is trimmed in smooth leather and displays a color-contrasting double stitch with an exclusive seam pattern. The reach and height of the steering wheel can be power adjusted, including a programmable automatic entry and exit function. The shift paddles, which are mounted to the steering wheel, have an aluminum-look finish. The knob on the transmission selector lever is likewise finished in aluminum and trimmed with smooth leather. The Audi S6's standard trim inserts are in Grey Birch wood. Carbon Fiber is available as an option. The material on the instrument panel represents a further innovation in the Audi S6: it correspondingly exhibits an anthracite-colored metallic surface characteristic. Anthracite also is the predominant color featured on the other sections of the instrument panel. The centre console, on the other hand, is in black. The MMI control terminal, located behind the gearshift lever, is perfectly ergonomically aligned with its display exactly in the driver's line of vision, integrated beneath the top dashboard cover. All of the car's occupants benefit from a higher standard of comfort and interior spaciousness. The wheelbase of the Audi A6 line is a spacious 111.9 inches. This means extra comfort and safety as well as additional legroom for the front passengers, plus extra knee room at the rear. The luggage capacity on the sedan is 15.9 cubic feet. The Avant model increases the A6's cargo volume to 34 cu.ft. with the seats in place and 63.9 cu.ft. with the rear seats folded. The luggage compartment in the A6 Avant is as advanced as the rest of the vehicle. It employs two securing rails that are recessed into the floor. They are fitted with four sliding, adjustable, and lockable load-retaining lugs that can be used to secure items of almost any size. There is a removable telescoping arm and a retractable cargo strap, both of which can be adjusted and locked within the rails. Both of these items help to separate and secure items in the cargo area. The load floor itself can be folded and locked in a variety of positions to divide the cargo area. Finally, there are several baggage hooks integrated into the trim, with a luggage net to one side. For the first time on an Audi Avant, an optional power tailgate opens and closes at the push of a button. The power opening process also can be initiated remotely by pressing a button on the car key. The tailgate opening height also is programmable.
Drivetrain
The 2008 Audi A6 model line up offers three engine choices fitted in longitudinal arrangement - all engines share a level of power and torque that is outstanding in this segment of the market:
4.2 liter FSI V8 with 350 hp and 325 ft. lbs. torque
3.2 liter FSI V6 with 255 hp and 243 ft. lbs. torque
5.2 liter FSI V10 with 435 hp and 398 ft. lbs. of torque
The A6 3.2, A6 3.2 quattro, and A6 Avant all come standard with the V6 engine. A6 4.2 quattro models come standard with the FSI V8 engine, and the Audi S6 has the 5.2 V10 FSI engine.
All of these engines come from Audi's V-configuration engine family with a 90° cylinder angle and a distance of 90 millimeters (3.54") between the cylinders.
They are both compact in design and feature a variable intake manifold for better torque at low rpms and continuous inlet camshaft control.
Engines
All three engines feature Audi's FSI direct injection technology. Direct injection delivers more dynamic engine response with higher torque and power output and lower fuel consumption. The main factor contributing to these improvements is how fuel is delivered. Fuel is not injected into the intake port but rather directly into the combustion chamber. The injector, which is supplied by a single-piston pump and common rail fuel line, is on the side of the cylinder head and controls the injection time to within thousandths of a second, at injection pressures of up to 1600 psi.Other exciting features of the FSI engines are on-demand fuel supply, four-valve technology, and a variable intake manifold and infinitely variable camshaft adjustment which gives the driver a dynamic and powerful reaction to every movement of the accelerator. All this equals muscular torque and a high standard of fuel efficiency.
Transmission
The improved fuel economy and dynamic performance offered by the Audi A6 family also result from the advanced transmission choices: a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission with quattro all-wheel drive or a multitronic CVT transmission with its unique "shift-without-lift" power delivery. Audi's impressive multitronic CVT - standard on A6 3.2 FrontTrak - uses a variator, a set of pulleys and a chain link belt of vanadium-hardened steel to change gear ratios constantly. Without gears, there is a constant balance of ideal power being transferred from the engine to the wheels in a shift-less operation resulting in improved performance and fuel economy. Both transmissions allow for manual gear selection if the driver chooses.Audi's reknowned quattro all-wheel drive system comes standard on A6 Avant, A6 3.2 quattro sedan, A6 4.2 quattro, and Audi S6 models. A typical feature of all highperformance Audi vehicles, quattro models come with a torsion center differential that distributes engine torque in a straightforward but very effective flow of power to the front and rear axles. This makes a significant contribution to the driving dynamics and superior safety, even in extreme situations so typical of quattro drive. The power split in the Audi S6 is 40 percent to the front wheels and 60 percent to the rear. This slight bias in favor of the rear has been chosen to place even greater emphasis on the car's sporty, dynamic character.
Driving dynamics and motoring comfort
Audi's dynamic suspension featured on the A6 is likewise based on sporting, proven technology: the enhanced four-link front suspension and the self-tracking trapezoidallink rear suspension are adopted from the Audi A8.The result is a standard of dynamic driving behavior beyond comparison. Like the A8, the A6 is a sporty and dynamic car, benefiting from speed-dependent Servotronic® and supplementing the precise handling of the new A6 by even more sensitive steering precision.Optional on the A6 4.2 and A6 Avant models is an adaptive air suspension system. Using MMI, the driver can choose between three different ride settings: comfort, dynamic, or automatic. There also is a lift mode to assist the A6 in avoiding taller objects in its path. The system lowers and raises the vehicle, depending on speed, to help increase high-speed stability and reduce fuel consumption. As a reflection of its explicitly sporty character, the suspension settings of the Audi S6 have been made firmer, even compared with the A6 sports suspension, and at the same time they assure a high standard of comfort for long-distance driving. The Audi S6 always is noticeably more agile. Driving stability and traction have been further optimized specifically for the high performance standards of the Audi S6.The Audi S6 comes standard with 19-inch cast aluminum wheels of a five-arm wing design. The 265/35 R19 summer performance tires further differentiate the Audi S6 from other A6 models. The brake system assures supreme braking performance and decelerates the car quickly, even under high loads. Its four large ventilated discs include two on the front wheels measuring 15.2 inches in diameter and two at the rear that measure 13 inches. The front brake discs are 1.4 inches thick, and the rear brake discs are 0.9 inches. The brake calipers are painted black, and the front calipers are adorned with a titanium grey supporting plate with an S-specific S6 emblem.
Equipment
The Audi A6 comes with a high level of standard equipment right from the start. Customers will appreciate and enjoy the premium standard wood decorative inlays and the quality and finish of interior materials such as aluminum surrounds and leather seating surfaces.New for 2008 is the addition of headlight washers and SIRIUS® Satellite Radio. The advanced MMI (standard on the A6 4.2 and Audi S6) with its seven-inch color display, a fully integrated DSP sound system and an optional BOSE® Surround Sound system, shines above the competition. Other standard features include the electromechanical parking brake, a tire pressure monitoring system and a light and rain sensor to add a sense of comfort and security. All A6 models in the range are equipped with automatic climate control with enhanced output and optimized noise control, featuring indirect ventilation and B-pillar outlets, and air quality, humidity, and sun angle sensors.Drivers of the A6 4.2 and Audi S6 have an even higher level of standard equipment with amenities such as a sunroof, standard heated front seats with memory function, HomeLink®, and BOSE Surround Sound.Available Adaptive Cruise Control keeps the A6 and Audi S6 at a driver-programmed distance away from the vehicle ahead. A wood and leather segmented multifunction steering wheel with shift paddles and a coordinating wood shift knob can be chosen as well on A6. Audi's optional advanced key system incorporates an electronic pulse transmitter that sends a signal to a proximity sensor in the door for authentication. Following approval, the system unlocks the doors as soon as the driver or passenger pulls the door handle.Using the keyless entry feature, the driver also is able to release the steering and ignition electronically through wireless remote control before setting out. A simple touch of the starter button on the center console starts the engine.MMI can be upgraded further with a DVD navigation system and a new Color Driver Information Center (part of the Technology package on Audi S6).All Audi A6 models come standard with the Bluetooth® interface for mobile telephones, which can be operated through the multifunction steering wheel or the MMI system. An optional voice recognition system can control the Bluetooth interface, as well as the CD player, radio and navigation system.

2008 Audi S5

2008 Audi S5
The Audi S5 is a unique competitor among high-performance coupés, thanks to its combination of V8 FSI technology and quattro permanent four-wheel drive. The eight-cylinder engine with its superb power delivery has worthy counterparts in the specially tuned sports suspension and high-performance brakes. Subtle, but clear design elements inside and out serve to distinguish this coupé as a high performance athlete in a league of its own. The Audi S5 went on sale with the launch of the Audi A5 series.
Engine and running gear - Fascination no figures can express
The figures alone are fascinating enough, but they only hint at the impressive driving experience the Audi S5 offers. The eight-cylinder engine has a rated power output of 260 kW (354 bhp). Its peak torque is 440 Nm, which it already delivers at 3,500 rpm. Within just 5.1 seconds the Audi S5 can sprint to 100 km/h. But no figures can adequately describe the supreme free-revving character, the spontaneous response, the continuous power build-up, or the thrilling sound of this eight-cylinder engine. The V8 naturally derives its enormous power potential from the innovative FSI direct injection technology with high compression and optimum fuel mixture formation. The six-speed manual gearbox with its very precise guiding of the gear lever and short throw action makes every gear change a pleasure. The quattro permanent four-wheel drive of course provides perfect traction with variable torque distribution from its basic setting of 40 percent to the front and 60 percent to the rear axle. Within a fraction of a second, the dynamic drivetrain system adapts to the current driving conditions and constantly delivers the ideal distribution of drive torque. The Audi S5's sports suspension is tuned to enhance the coupé's performance with particularly dynamic handling. The special high-performance brakes, recognisable by their black painted brake calipers, always ensure precise deceleration. And finally, the ESP electronic stabilisation programme can be deactivated in two stages whenever the driver wishes to exploit the potential of the Audi S5 to the full on a suitable stretch of road.
Design and interiors - Sporty aesthetics with clear functionality
While the design of the Audi A5 forms a balanced synthesis of sportiness and elegance, the Audi S5 displays the more vigorous features of a powerfully built athlete: the radiator grille possesses the specific look of an Audi S model - painted in platinum grey and fitted with vertical chrome inlays. The front and rear bumpers have a more pronounced outline and the air inlet grilles are more striking. The aluminium-look exterior mirror housings make an overtly sporty impression, as do the colour-keyed door sill trim and the dual-branch exhaust system with four oval tailpipes. Nevertheless, the model's sporty attributes always have a functional aspect: for instance, the more pronounced spoiler in the boot lid yields additional aerodynamic downforce. However, true strength comes from within and the interior design of the Audi A5 thoroughly underscores its athletic character. The sports seats, sports steering wheel, instruments with grey dials and aluminium door sill plates provide a dynamic and refined atmosphere. The programme does, of course, provide ample scope to fulfil individual interior design wishes: the inlays are one example - here the choice is between carbon, aluminium, stainless steel or wood. After all, the Audi S5 should perfectly match its owner's individual ideas and expectations.Alongside the coupé's 18-inch wheels with the new S design and 245/40 R 18 tyres, the standard equipment specification for the Audi S5 features items such as xenon plus headlights with impressive daytime running lights in the form of an LED light strip, or sports seats with electronic adjustment.

The architecture of the driver's area, especially the cockpit - a perfect synthesis of ergonomics, function and design - is pioneering.
The design
Self-assured in appearance, the striking single-frame grille and clear-glass headlights with their curving, emotional line give the Audi S4 Cabriolet an aggressive face. The trapezoidal shape of the single-frame grille is continued in the more prominent contours of the engine hood.Like the Audi S4 Sedan, the Audi S4 Cabriolet features the S-specific grid pattern in the singleframe grille. The bumpers with large air inlets, the aluminium-look casings for the exterior mirrors, the redesigned rear lights, the V8 badges on the front fenders, and the four oval tailpipes are the distinguishing visual features of the Audi S4 Cabriolet.Taut lines and clear surfaces that hold no secrets, coupled with a tension-packed shoulder line extending along the entire length of the body, produce a look that is simultaneously powerful and elegant. The rear end is distinguished by lights with a clear-glass appearance that also emphasize the Audi S4 Cabriolet's premium quality from behind. The rear diffuser underscores the car's sports character. The modern and innovatively designed interior fits with the progressive look of the car's exterior styling. The steering wheels provide their characteristic element in the airbag cover with its single-frame design. Door sill trims with aluminum inserts and numerous aluminum inlays are a standard feature of the Audi S4 Cabriolet.Inside, the Audi S4 Cabriolet differs in appearance from the Audi A4 Cabriolet. The instrument cluster has special needles and grey dials that are characteristic of S models. Power adjustable sports seats with leather upholstery further differentiate the Audi S4 Cabriolet. Inlays in Walnut or Fine Grain Birch wood grey can be ordered.Almost all convertibles look good with the top down, but only a few are equally as attractive with the top up. The Audi S4 Cabriolet cuts an extremely fine figure, both open and closed. Thanks to its good thermal insulation and glass rear window, the Audi S4 Cabriolet can also be used without restriction in the winter.Audi also offers an acoustic roof that that is even more insulating. By using new fabrics with a greater material density, the noise level inside the cabin is reduced further, virtually matching that of the Audi A4 sedan, even at highway speeds. This new acoustic top is standard fare on the Audi S4 Cabriolet.
Engine and transmission
The Audi S4 Cabriolet is propelled by a 340 hp eight-cylinder engine. Its maximum power output is reached at 7,000 rpm. The 4.2-litre engine delivers a hefty 302 ft. lbs. of torque at 3,500 rpm. Thanks to such a superior power flow from the substantial displacement, this naturally aspirated engine exhibits an air of supreme confidence.
The chassis
The set-up of the dynamic suspension system, with four-link front and self-tracking trapezoidal-link rear suspension, has been designed for sporty handling and good ride comfort. The steering has been developed to give the driver greater precision, as well as better feedback from the road when cruising. In connection with this, the engineers adopted several mountings and the dimensions of the front and rear shock absorbers from the Audi A6. The rear trapezoidal links and the front track rods originate from the Audi S4 sedan. These systems add up to a high level of agility and precise handling, combined with first-class ride comfort - all qualities that benefit drivers of the Audi S4 Cabriolet. This also applies to the brakes, whose dimensions and performance have been adapted to suit the Cabriolet.
Equipment and trim
The Audi S4 Cabriolet offer a standard equipment list that sets a benchmark in the midsize class. Every new Audi S4 Cabriolet, for example, comes with a power retractable roof and dual-zone automatic climate control, ten-speaker audio system with in-dash six-CD changer and MP3 compatibility, power one-touch windows, driver information display, cruise control, Bi-Xenon headlights with adaptive front technology, large ski sack, high-pressure headlight washer system, acoustic convertible top, and numerous other features that are typical of a luxury convertible. Both the Auid S4 Cabriolet can be equipped with an Audio package with a Bose premium sound system and SIRIUS satellite radio, and a Convenience package including HomeLink, auto-dimming exterior and interior mirrors, light/rain sensor for automatic wipers and headlights, driver side memory for seat and mirrors, and heated front seats. Other stand alone options on the Audi S4 Cabriolet consist of luxury items like heated front seats, Audi Navigation Plus, and Bluetooth phone preparation.
Safety is standard, not optional
The Audi S4 Cabriolet's A-pillars are reinforced very effectively by means of high-strength tubes whose structure is an indispensable source of extra safety if the car rolls over. Sills with an optimized thickness and cross-section boost the occupant cell's strength and occupant protection. High-strength tubes also are used in the seat structure, as a means of protecting the occupants in the event of a lateral collision. The doors, in particular, have to be designed with safety in mind. In conjunction with structural reinforcements in the sills and a strengthening cross-member below the rear seat, special impact absorbing beams in the doors help ensure a high standard of safety. At the back of the car, a double rear panel improves body rigidity. The comprehensive safety package contains seat belts with belt-force limiter and belt tensioner for all passengers, together with full-size front and side airbags. The side airbags integrated into the front seats are designed to protect the head and thorax. If the car rolls over, a roll-over protection system in the double rear bulkhead adds to the occupants' safety. In this case, two protective bars, controlled by sensors, are triggered behind the rear passengers within milliseconds. Together with the extremely rigid windshield frame, they help to preserve survival space for all occupants if the car turns over. The standard electronic stabilization program ESP 8.0 with hydraulic brake assist provides for maximum active safety. All seats are equipped with three-point inertia-reel belts (the front belts have beltforce limiters and belt tensioners, plus a seat belt reminder for the driver) and head restraints. The safety equipment specification also includes a driver's airbag activated in two stages and side airbags.

2008 Audi RS6 Avant UK Version

2008 Audi RS6 Avant UK Version
The new biturbo, ten-cylinder super Avant - the eagerly awaited successor to the revered original RS6 quattro of 2002 - will open for UK ordering from November for an OTR price expected to be in the region of Ł75,000. First deliveries will follow in spring 2008, and later that year a saloon variant will also become available. The basis for the latest RS flagship is the 435PS S6 quattro with its exceptionally compact, naturally aspirated ten cylinder engine enhanced by FSI direct petrol injection. Two turbo chargers and extensive component refinements boost the output of this acclaimed unit to 580PS at 6,250rpm, and increase torque from 540Nm to 650Nm, available from just 1,500rpm right through to 6,250rpm.As a result, the RS6 quattro with optimised six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission can blast to 62mph from rest in 4.6 seconds and to 124mph in just 14.9 seconds, only relenting when the electronic governor cuts in at 155mph.Yet despite the considerable exertions of its two newly adopted turbo chargers, the mighty V10 nevertheless retains surprisingly 'real world' fuel economy, with up to 20.3mpg possible on the combined cycle, only slightly behind the naturally aspirated V10 powering the S6 quattro. FSI direct petrol injection - which minimises the amount of fuel used in each combustion cycle through injection directly into the combustion chamber rather than via the intake manifold - can be thanked for this impressive efficiency.
Latest generation quattro and Dynamic Ride Control
To reach the tarmac via the suitably imposing 19-inch, or optional 20-inch, alloy wheels, the barrage of power passes through the latest generation quattro four-wheel-drive system with standard 40:60 front-to-rear torque split, ensuring that it translates seamlessly into smooth, safely contained and uninterrupted performance. The feeling of unflappable composure is emphasised further by a new, all-hydraulic version of the Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) system that won plenty of praise in the original RS6 quattro and has since been used in the RS 4 quattro.DRC connects shock absorbers on each side of the car diagonally to their counterparts by way of a central valve, which directs a flow of oil to provide additional damping force whenever a shock absorber is compressed, making for impressive gains in handling precision and stability. New to this latest RS6 quattro is an optional three-stage selectable control for this system, which allows the driver to choose from three damper settings - comfort, dynamic and sport – according to preference and conditionsAlso overseeing proceedings in the most powerful Audi in the range is a specially reconfigured version of the Electronic Stability Programme which has been programmed to intervene as late as possible, maximising driving pleasure without compromising ultimate safety. If required, the ESP system can be completely deactivated. The most crucial safety feature, namely the ventilated all-disc braking system, is of course more than up to the task of reining in this most extreme of Audi Avants, and an upgrade to ultra high performance ceramic brakes with even more exceptional performance and fade resistance is also available at extra cost. The incredibly assured handling this advanced set-up permits can be enjoyed from the comfort and support of the cabin's sculpted and ultra-grippy leather and alcantara-upholstered RS sports seats, the driver's positioned perfectly in relation to the flat-bottomed RS sports steering wheel with multifunction controls and transmission shift paddles. Additional RS features in the much praised interior also include boost pressure and oil temperature readouts, milled finish door handles and aluminium-look pedals. The familiar A6 Avant virtues, not least its potential 1,660-litre load capacity, are of course very much in evidence.
